Coming off his career-high 22 points in the Golden Griffins’ overtime win at St. Bonaventure Dec. 22, Canisius freshman guard Isaiah Reese was been named the MAAC’s Rookie of the Week today. This marks the second time in the last three weeks where Reese has been honored as the conference’s top rookie performer.

Reese came off the bench and scored a career-high 22 points in 34 minutes of play after going 7-for-11 from the field, 3-for-5 from 3-point land and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. He also dished out four assists and grabbed two rebounds as the Griffs’ earned just their sixth win in the Reilly Center with a 106-101 overtime victory.

Reese’s 22 points against the Bonnies are the most for a true Canisius freshman since former Griff Zach Lewis had 25 points in a win over Monmouth Jan. 12, 2014. In the team’s last five games, Reese has been good for double-figures in the scoring column four times, where he’s averaging 14 points to go along with 3.2 assists per contest. The Miami, Florida native is the second MAAC freshman this year to earn the league’s rookie of the week honors twice, joining with Rider guard Stevie Jordan.

The Griffs will return to action Jan. 2, when the team plays host to Siena in the Koessler Athletic Center. Game time is set for 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports Channel, with the radio broadcast available through Timeless WECK 1230-AM and 102.9-FM and the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network.
