BUFFALO — Panasonic will team up with Tesla to produce solar cells at a factory in South Buffalo.

The deal between the two companies calls for Panasonic to pay capital costs for the cells’ manufacturing with Tesla making a “long-term purchase commitment” to purchase the cells from Panasonic.

Financial data of the deal was not offered but it will reportedly result in 1,400 new jobs in the region with production to being in mid-2017. New York State has committed $750 million to build and outfit the plant at RiverBend.
