NEW YORK — The Purple Eagles closed out their non-conference schedule at Fordham on Thursday. The Rams defeated Niagara, 92-69.

The Purple Eagles started the game strong, going on a 6-1 run in the first quarter. The Rams came back to tie up the score, but two free throws from Stroemple put the Purple Eagles back in the lead, 8-6. Niagara and Fordham kept it close throughout the first quarter and the Purple Eagles trailed narrowly, 22-20, going into the second quarter. A 3-pointer from Morgan Baughman and a three from Jamie Sherburne put the Purple Eagles within just a few points of the Rams’ lead, 32-28, with under six minutes remaining in the second quarter. Despite points from Rampado, Moore and Kharysma Bryant, the Rams went on a 10-0 run to close out the quarter and went into halftime leading 48-33. 3-pointers from Sherburne and Baughman cut Fordham’s lead to 60-46 with less than five minutes left in the third quarter. A layup from Stroemple with about 40 seconds remaining in the third quarter put Niagara within less than 20 points of the lead, but Fordham went into the final quarter of play leading 72-51. Stroemple added four points and Rampado added six points for Niagara in the final quarter. Emily Granruth sank a 3-point shot to close out scoring for the Purple Eagles.

The Purple Eagles resume conference play at Saint Peter’s at 3 p.m. Dec. 30. Following Saint Peter’s, Niagara heads to Siena for a matchup with the Saints at 7 p.m. Jan. 2. The game will air live on ESPN3.
