BUFFALO – Five home games, matchups with four NCAA Tournament teams, and six Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contests highlight the 2017 Canisius Men’s Lacrosse schedule, head coach Randy Mearns announced this afternoon.

“We’re excited to get the 2017 season underway,” said Mearns, who is in his 19th season as head coach at Canisius. “Our non-conference schedule is challenging, but I believe a lot of those games to be ones where we can be successful. Those games will prepare us for our MAAC slate.

“Our guys have focused all fall on being in better shape and being stronger. We’ve been challenging our guys to being committed to getting better every time we step on the field. They’ve done everything we’ve asked. We’re excited to get the season rolling once we get back to school.”

The Griffs open their season Feb. 18 with a matchup against Dartmouth at the Pinnacle Athletic Complex in Victor, N.Y.

Canisius travels to Colorado the following weekend for matchups with Air Force and Denver in the Pioneer Face-Off Classic in Denver.

Home tilts against Empire State foes Albany (March 21) and Binghamton (March 28) and road contests versus Cleveland State (March 4), Hobart (March 14) and Robert Morris (April 18) round out the non-conference slate.

Canisius begins its quest for a MAAC Championship March 18 with a home contest against Marist. The Griffs also host Siena (April 15) and Quinnipiac (April 28) in league play while traveling to conference foes Manhattan (March 25), Detroit (April 8), and Monmouth (April 21).

“Everybody in our league has continued to make great strides,” Mearns said. Because of that commitment, our league is very balanced from top to bottom. Every game in the MAAC this year is going to be a battle. There are no easy wins in this league and that’s what makes it so great.”

The top four teams in the MAAC regular season qualify for the 2017 MAAC Championship, held on the campus of the highest-seeded team. The semifinals are scheduled for May 5 with the championship game slated for May 7.

Season and individual game tickets will be available for purchase in January. For more information, contact the Canisius Ticket Office at (716) 888-TIXX.
