Kathy A. (Fleck) Olander, 64, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born on January 1, 1952 in Niagara Falls, NY, Kathy was the daughter of Eileen M. (Bedore) Fleck and the late David T. Fleck.
Kathy was the beloved wife of John Olander, whom she married on September 10, 1971. She is also survived by her two children, Erik G. (Julie) Olander and Lesley (Darren) Reed; four granddaughters, Sarah (Rafael) Calderon, Amelia, Charley and Maggie; one great-grandson, Anthony; four sisters, Linda (Paul) Traver, Anita (John) O’Hear, Anne (Rob) Fleck and Mary Claire (Albert) Fleck; three brothers, David (Mary Sue) Fleck, Steven (Diane) Fleck and Joe Fleck and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her father, Kathy was predeceased by one sister, Eileen (Jeff) Toner.
Kathy was a graduate of the last graduating class of Stella Niagara Education Park and Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts in 1971. After college, she worked as an intern at the Waldorf Astoria in NY, NY. Kathy later returned to Niagara Falls to assist in the prominent family business of Howard Johnson Motor Lodge and Restaurant. In 2000, she and her two sisters, entered into a new family business venture by establishing Three Sisters Trading Post.
Kathy enjoyed spending time with friends and family at the cottage in Wyldwood Beach, the farmhouse in Ellicottville and St. George Island, Fl. She was also a member of Lac Pythonga Fishing and Game Club in Quebec, Canada as well as Holimont Ski Club in Ellicottville, NY. Kathy loved spending time quilting with her mother and friends in St. George Island. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends throughout the National Parks system, the United States and various international cities in Europe and England.
The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, in the Town of Niagara. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 21st at 9:00 a.m. which will be celebrated in St. Mary of the Cataract Church, 259 4th Street, Niagara Falls, NY, with Rev. Jacek Mazur serving as celebrant. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH. Prayers of committal and interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
