BUFFALO — Buffalo State goaltender Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling/Pawling) was named to this week’s D3Hockey.com Team of the Week this evening, after playing a big role in the Bengals upset of No. 1 Oswego over the weekend.

Even in a week that saw the Bengals go 1-1, DeLaVergne posted another sensational pair of outings to add to his already impressive season.  The senior business major continued a run where he has allowed a goal or less in 10 of his last 11 starts.

DeLaVergne turned aside 29-of-30 shots in Friday’s 3-0 loss to Cortland, exiting the game down 1-0 for the extra attack for the final 90 seconds of the game.

On Saturday, he “rebounded” from the loss with an even better performance, stopping 27-of-28 shots against No. 1 Oswego to hand the Lakers their first loss of the season in a 5-1 Bengal win.

Entering the winter break, DeLaVergne is 8-2-1 and leads the SUNYAC with a 1.00 goals against average and .964 save percentage.  His save percentage is the best in all of Division III while his GAA comes in second in the country.

DeLaVergne is the second Bengal to be named to a D3Hockey.com Team of the Week this season, joining forward Zach Nieminen (Ajax, ON/Notre Dame CSS) who earned the honor just a week ago.

Jake Heisinger (Curry), Garrett Clemment (UW-Eau Claire) and Mike Crowley (Cortland) were named the team’s forwards of the week while Jimmy Burns (Castleton) and Michael Heidkamp (Endicott) got the nod on defense.

After the upset of Oswego, Buffalo State jumped into the top 10 of both national polls released this week.  The Bengals remained at No. 10 in the D3Hockey.com poll while moving up two spots to No. 9 in the USCHO.com rankings.

Buffalo State is on break for the holidays before returning to practice on Dec. 29.

The Bengals will next compete in the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational, opening against Becker on Jan. 6.
