BUFFALO — Two members of the University at Buffalo football team were named to the 2016 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league announced on Tuesday. Junior linebacker Jarrett Franklin and senior longsnapper Corbin Grassman were both named the team.

Franklin is an electrical engineering major with a 3.2 grade point average. He ranked third on the team in tackles with 75 (45 solo). The Missouri native added 3 tackles for loss, a sack, a pass breakup, three quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery.  Franklin had double-digit tackles three times on the season, including a career-high 17 tackles against Army.

A communication major, Grassman has a 3.2 grade point average. The Johnstown, OH native started every game this season and of his 4-year career as Buffalo’s long snapper. He added a pair of tackles on the year.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student who has excelled in athletics and academics.  To qualify, a student must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
