Eva Marie Rose, wife of the late Richard B. Rose Jr., died in Niagara Hospice, Lockport NY on Sunday, December 11. She was born to Peter and Eva Rollinger in Pittsburgh, PA on August 29, 1916 and had one brother, the late Nicholas.

She married Richard “Bud” Rose Jr., in Pittsburgh on March 17, 1939 where they made their home until they embarked on a great adventure and moved to western New York in 1947 for a job at Westinghouse. Then they decided to try something completely different and bought a small fruit farm in Burt, NY in 1954. There, as their farm grew and blossomed, they raised three children. Richard (Joyce) of Lakewood, NY; Susan Straub and the late Jeff of San Diego, CA; and Timothy of Burt, NY. The farm was the epicenter of family gatherings, holidays, and annual summer corn roasts.

Eva, the matriarch, loved playing bridge and was active in her church. She established many family traditions; made hand-made matching holiday dresses and nightgowns for her granddaughters for many years, lovingly taught cookie and jelly-making to all and instilled the importance of thank-you notes in three generations. She was well-loved by seven grandchildren and had the joy of knowing ten great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Niagara Hospice at 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or St Andrew’s Church, 2239 West Creek Road, Burt, NY 14028. A memorial service will be held on March 17, 2017 at St Andrew’s Church, 2239 West Creek Road, Burt, NY.
