SYRACUSE — The Niagara women’s basketball team was defeated by the No. 20/19 Syracuse Orange on Saturday afternoon.

Syracuse went on a 5-0 run to open the game, ended by two free throw from Victoria Rampado. Two from Morgan Baughman brought Niagara within one point of the Orange, 5-4. Kaylee Stroemple scored four straight points for the Purple Eagles, but Syracuse led 30-8 going into the second quarter. Corselli opened scoring for the Purple Eagles in the second quarter, sinking a three with a little under six minutes remaining in the quarter. Six points from Jai Moore, and two from Stroemple, put the score at 62-19 going into halftime, with the Orange in the lead.

Granruth hit a 3-point shot to open the third quarter and cut the Orange’s lead to 40, 62-22. Granruth sank another three with a little over eight minutes remaining in the third quarter. Threes from Corselli and Baughman and a 3-point play from Stroemple brought the score to 92-42, with the Orange ahead, going into the final quarter. Granruth sank another three with about five and a half minutes remaining in the game. Corselli, Moore, Rampado, Dagny Davidsdottir, Kharysma Bryant, Jamie Sherburne and Carolyn Cosey all added points for the Purple Eagles in the fourth quarter.

The Purple Eagles play at Drexel at 5 p.m. Tuesday and close out non-conference play at Fordham on Dec. 22 at 2 p.m.
