BUFFALO — Evander Kane scored the Sabres first and third goals tonight, leading the Buffalo Sabres to victory over the Edmonton Oilers at KeyBank Center.

Kane opened the scoring at 10:38 of the first period — and scored again with just 29 seconds to go in regulation, sending the game to overtime. Brian Gionta scored three minutes and eight seconds after Kane’s first-period goal, followed by three goals by Edmonton.

With the game tied, Rasmus Ristolainen scored the overtime game-winner on the power play, 57 seconds into the extra period. Ryan O’Reilly and Jack Eichel assisted on the game-winning goal.

The Sabres play again on Friday when the Washington Capitals visit Buffalo.

NOTES:

  • With his goal, Kane now has a point in four of his last five games (2+2), including one in each of his last three home games.
  • Gionta’s goal gave him eight points (4+4) in his last seven games against the Oilers.
  • With the game-winning goal and two assists, Ristolainen now has seven points (1+6) in his last five games and eight points (2+6) in his last six games against the Oilers.
