LEWISTON — Visitors are invited to see a dazzling display of individually decorated evergreens and take part in a day of festivities – including photos with Santa – compliments of the New York Power Authority (NYPA) at the Power Vista at the Niagara Power Project.

The annual Festival of Trees, which began Thursday and runs through Jan. 1, features more than 50 artificial evergreens, adorned with energy-efficient lights and decorated for the season by area non-profit groups. The trees are located throughout the Power Vista exhibit space and along the glass walkway.

Activities for the Deck the Halls event on Saturday will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include photos with Santa from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; face painting; crafts with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; ornament decoration with the University Heights Arts Association; and performances. Refreshments will also be sold by Boy Scout Troop 855 of Lewiston starting at 11 a.m.

Also on Saturday, Miss Bev’s Dance Studio will have a holiday performance at 11 a.m. in the community room. The Harry F. Abate and G.J. Mann elementary schools combined band, led by music instructor Mike Kineke, will perform at 1 and 3 p.m.

State parks will provide free rides on its Niagara Scenic Trolley between the Gorge Discovery Center and the Niagara Power Vista during the event.

Non-perishable food donations will be collected in the Power Vista reception area on behalf of local food banks.

Guests are also invited to enjoy the Power Vista’s new exhibits. Take a seat on a 4-D theatre virtual roller coaster ride, create a transmission distribution system on a one-of-a-kind grid table, build a dam or simulate the coordination of power during bad weather.

The Power Vista is located at 5777 Lewiston Road in Lewiston. Parking is free. For more information, call (716) 286-6661 or email npvista@nypa.gov.
