Buffalo State seniors Tre Jones (Rochester/Greece-Athena) and Nick Jones (Buffalo/West Seneca West) will represent the Bengals in the seventh annual National Bowl in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Sunday.
The National Bowl showcases seniors from Divisions II and III in front of scouts from both the NFL and Canadian Football League (CFL).
Tre Jones completed his four-year career at running back this season finishing with 2,083 yards and 24 rushing touchdowns, averaging 5.4 yards-per-carry for his career. The mechanical engineering major also had 15 career receptions for 260 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jones piled up 889 rushing yards with five touchdowns this season.
Nick Jones played two seasons for the Bengals after previously playing at Erie CC and University of Texas-El Paso and serving five years in the United States Marine Corps. The 6’6″, 260-pound tight end caught 29 passes for 256 yards and four touchdowns in two seasons and was also a strong run blocker. The health and wellness major was named second team All-Empire 8 as a senior.
Jones and Jones will play for the “American Team” under head coach Brian Ferguson who coached five seasons with the Jacksonville Sharks of the Arena Football League, helping the team win the 2011 Arena Bowl Championship. Ferguson currently serves as the co-offensive coordinator at Tusculum College in Greenville, Tenn.
