BUFFALO — For the second-straight night, Buffalo State out powered visiting SUNY Canton to pick up its fourth-straight win in a 6-3 non-conference victory this evening at the Buffalo State College Ice Arena.

Canton struck first, as the Bengals found themselves in penalty trouble to begin the game. The ‘Roos capitalized on the power play 6:35 into the contest to take a 1-0 lead. Buffalo State answered back under two minutes later, as the Bengals found themselves on a 5-on-3 of their own. Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) and Brody Power (Toronto, ON/Upper Canada College) were commanding the play from the point, moving the puck back and forth to open up a shot. Wood wound up and slapped a shot into the top corner of the net from just inside the blue line to tie the game, 1-1. Buffalo State again found itself with the man advantage 15:32 into the first. Looking similar to their first goal, the Bengals were again cycling the puck, with Wood and Power on the point.  After a couple passes back and forth, Wood returned the favor, setting up Power with a one-timer that he buried to make it 2-1, Buffalo State. The Bengals once again found themselves on the power play and scored again a minute later.  Off a Buffalo State faceoff win, Wood wristed a shot to the net that was saved by Canton.  Zach Remers (Clarence/Canisius) was in perfect position in front of the net though and tapped home the rebound to make it 3-1. Buffalo State held a 3-1 lead after the first period and outshot the ‘Roos, 15-5.

The Bengals stuck again 6:08 into the second period. Buffalo State took advantage of a bad clear attempt, blocked the puck and set in back into the Canton zone.  Stephen Kelly (Columbus, ON/Columbus North) got the puck in the slot, but lost his footing.  Taylor Pryce (Newmarket, ON/Cardinal Carter) was right behind him though, and sent his shot into the top corner of the net to make it 4-1, Buffalo State. Wood scored again a little more than five minutes later to extend the Bengal lead to 5-1. Buffalo State struck again 16:05 into the second.  Wood scored his second of the night to push the game to 6-1.

Canton scored two goals in the third period, but it wasn’t enough as Buffalo State won the game, 6-3. Making his first start of the season, Ian Sylves (Sloan/John F. Kennedy) turned aside 20-of-23 shots to pick up the victory. Anthony Passero (Fort Erie, ON/Lakeshore, 3) and Wood (2) each recorded a multi-assist game.
The Bengals finished the night 4-for-13 (.308) with the man-advantage and outshot Canton, 38-23.
