BUFFALO — Buffalo State used a 19-4 run in the second-half to erase a one-point deficit and pull away from visiting Maine-Fort Kent on its way to an 84-67 victory tonight in the opening round of the Coles Classic.

Mike Henry (Syracuse/West Genesee) was one of three Buffalo State players to record a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) added 15 points and 11 boards, and Jordan Chateau (Bayside/Lowell) had 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with four blocks. Dom Grayer (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) chipped in 15 points, and Nico McLean (Buffalo/Amherst) scored 10.

Buffalo State led 33-31 at halftime but UMFK led by one twice in the second half, including at 47-46 before Buffalo State responded with the 19-4 run to take the lead for good and never looked back. Buffalo State outrebounds UMFK, 51-39, and scored 23 points off 17 turnovers.

Buffalo State and Villa Maria will meet in Saturday’s championship game at 6 p.m.  Maine-Fort Kent and York will play in the consolation at 4 p.m.
