NIAGARA UNIV. — Niagara women’s basketball head coach Jada Pierce has announced the signing of Claire Wanzer from Amherst High School in Amherst. She will enroll at Niagara University in fall 2017.

“We are thrilled to have Claire join our Purple Eagle family,” said Pierce. “Claire is a versatile guard with good size that plays with a high level of energy. She has a wide skill range, being able to score, pass and rebound. We look forward to Claire helping our program succeed on and off the court.”

Wanzer, a 5-foot-8 guard, has had an impressive high school basketball career. In her junior year, Wanzer surpassed the 1,000 point mark and set an Amherst single-game scoring record with 39 points. Through the past three seasons, Wanzer has averaged 16.0 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Wanzer was named team MVP from eighth to 12th grades and has served as a team captain for the last three seasons. She was a two-time All-Western New York selection, a two-time All-Bee First Team honoree and was named to the All-ECIC III First Team three times.
