BUFFALO — Head coach of the Canisius College rowing program, Joel Furtek announced the team’s third signing for the incoming freshman class on Wednesday, as Anezka Krobot (Fairfax, Va.) will join the program next season.

“We’re proud to welcome Anezka to Canisius and to Buffalo,” Furtek said. “Anezka has medaled at the Virginia state championships with her Lake Braddock crew and also brings a wide set of experience rowing for Resilient Rowing, including Canadian Henley, The Head of the Charles, The Head of the Hooch, and Club Nationals.”

Krobot has rowed with Lake Braddock Secondary School beginning in 2014. In that time she’s earned a second-place finish at the state championship, manning the second varsity four in 2015. She also took second in the junior varsity eight at the VASRA in 2016.

With Resilient Rowing, she’s attended some of the biggest events in the sport, competing at the Head of the Charles in 2015 and 2016, the Head of the Hooch in both years, and attended the 2016 club nationals , as well as the 2016 Canadian Henley regatta.

Krobot has excelled out of the water as well, earning an academic varsity letter, as well as making the athletic honor roll three years in a row. Her emphasis on athletic and academic excellence will fit right into the Canisius rowing family.

“Anezka is a great student and a strong rower who is just beginning to discover her potential,” Furtek said. “We look forward to her thriving in our competitive, supportive, and inclusive program.”

Krobot joins two other Griffs that signed earlier in the week as the Blue and Gold welcomed Maxine McGuire and Catherine Gallagher, teammates from Cleveland, Ohio.
