Helen P. (Zaczek) Scarpinski, 88, of Vernon Hills, IL passed away on August 31, 2016.  Helen was born in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Hugh and Etta Rae Murphy on July 9, 1928.

She was a long-time resident of Niagara Falls, NY where she married and raised her family. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where she was known for her compassionate nursing.  In 2002, after traveling with her daughter to China to complete an adoption, she moved to Vernon Hills, IL to care for her granddaughter.  In short time she became the “block grandma” to all the children living on her street.  She enjoyed reading, knitting, solving puzzles, baking, and sharing recipes with friends and family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Zaczek, her son, John Zaczek, three sisters, and three brothers.  She is survived by four children:  Edward (Shawn) Zaczek; Anne Zaczek; Eileen (Ruben) Vasquez; and Nancy Zaczek; six grandchildren: Christine (Larry) Vasquez; Edward (Nicole) Vasquez; Melissa (William) Vasquez; Stacey (Aaron) Loberg; Edward (Jaclyn) Zaczek III, and Eleanor Zaczek; four great grandchildren; and two brothers: William Murphy and Edward Murphy.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, November 26th at 10:00 a.m. which will be celebrated in St. Vincent de Paul Parish at St. Leo’s Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Private interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, in the Town of Niagara.
