BUFFALO — University at Buffalo rowing interim head coach Kerri Brace announced the signing of five rowers to National Letters of Intent on Tuesday. Sophia Buzzell, Sarah Frasier, Emma Reinsch, Renata Davie and Emily Roeder will join the program in the fall.

“These five young women will make an enormous impact on our program,” Brace said. “I am thrilled to have them join us in the fall. The level of racing experience and tremendous coaching they’ve received will instantly raise the standard of the program here at UB.”

Buzzell is a native of Fonthill, Ontario where she attends E.L. Crossley Secondary School and rows for the South Niagara Rowing Club. A coxswain, Buzzell was part of a team that took first at the 2015 Stotesbury Cup Regatta in the four boat. Her four boat also took first at the CSSRAs in 2014 and 2015. She placed third at the CSSRAs in the Junior Women’s 64kg 8s and Senior Women’s 63kg 4s at the CSSRAs in 2015.

Frasier comes to Buffalo from Salt Lake City, UT where she attends Skyline High School. She was selected to the Penn AC Summer 2016 Gold Women’s A Team. She took fourth at the USRowing Southwest Regional Championships in 2016. She also took second and third, respectively, in the 4+ and 1x at the 2016 Mountain West Regionals.

A native of British Columbia, Reinsch was selected to the 2015 Rowing Canada Junior Development Squad. A member of the Victoria City Rowing Club, she was part of a team that took first place in both the U17W4x and the U19W8+ at the 2015 BC Championships. She also competed at the 2015 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta where she took third in the U17W4x and fourth in the U17W2x.

Davie hails from Pleasant Valley, NY where she attends Arlington High School and rows for the Hudson River Rowing Association. A team captain, she was named the team’s Outstanding Rower in 2014 and 2016. Her Varsity 8 boat took first place at the 2015 Dutchess Cup and third place at the 2015 New York State Championships.

Roeder is a native of Liverpool, NY where she attends Liverpool High School and rows for the Syracuse Chargers Rowing Club. Winner of the team’s Most Improved Award, Roeder’s Varsity 4 boat finished in the top 10 in the time trials at the New York State Championships.

The UB rowing team kicks off its spring schedule at the Knecht Cup on April 8.
