The Atlantic Hockey Conference today announced Canisius senior goaltender Charles Williams as Atlantic Hockey Goalie of the Week after posting two victories over rival RIT this past weekend, allowing one goal, while making 84 saves. Williams, who tied his career-high for saves in the Griffs 2-1 victory Saturday night, was also named the NCAA Hockey Third Star of the Week.

Williams anchored the Griffs with a 1-0 shutout victory on Friday, making 41 saves, in the team’s first shutout victory over RIT in the Division I era of the series. The 1-0 victory was also the first for Canisius in a regular-season game since Nov. 15, 2009, when the Blue and Gold defeated UConn 1-0 at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.

In the 2-1 victory Saturday, Williams tied his career-high of 43 saves (set Oct. 29 at Penn St), while making 15 saves in a third period that saw Canisius on the penalty kill three times down the stretch.

In seven games during his senior season, the Canton, Mich. native has posted a 4-2-1 record, to go along with a 2.11 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage, which is tied for third best in the nation.

The Atlantic Hockey accolade is the second for Williams this season, while becoming the first Griff to be named a NCAA Hockey Star of the Week since Dylan McLaughlin recieved the award this past February.

The Griffs return to action with a weekend road series against Army West Point. Canisius is set to battle the Black Knights Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
