BUFFALO — The Buffalo State women’s ice hockey team moved into the top 10 for the first time this year, coming in at No. 8 in the latest D3Hockey.com national poll released on Monday.

ECAC West rival Plattsburgh was named the top team in the country with UW-River Falls, Elmira, Middlebury and Adrain rounding out the top five.

The Bengals knocked off then No. 9 Utica twice over the weekend to move into the top 10 after being in the receiving votes category in the preseason.

The Bengals defeated the Pioneers 2-1 on Friday and 1-0 in overtime on Saturday to improve to 3-0-1 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in ECAC West play.

Buffalo State had a record-setting year in 2015-16 under head coach Candice Moxley, finishing 18-8 overall and hosting an ECAC West playoff game for the first time in program history.

The Bengals will look to build on their strong start on the road this weekend against Potsdam. Buffalo State plays on Friday at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Maxcy Ice Arena.
