While national prices on gasoline are unchanged from a week ago, prices in New York have gone up an average of 2 cents per gallon, including in Buffalo and Rochester.

Prices in Buffalo and Rochester are $2.35 per gallon, while statewide the average is $2.40 per gallon. The national average is $2.21.

The latest factor to prevent the seasonal drop in gas prices is the explosion at the Colonial Pipeline in Alabama, which occurred on Oct. 31. The explosion killed one worker and caused a fire that burned for days within the pipe. It shut down two lines impacting gasoline as well as diesel and jet fuel. Crews made repairs and got the pipeline running yesterday though it will take days for the fuel delivery supply chain to return to normal. Colonial is a key artery that connects Gulf Coast refineries with markets across the southern and eastern United States. It’s the same pipeline that experienced a leak in September, which also drove gasoline prices up.
