TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 31-year-old Lockport man was charged Saturday with first-degree robbery and third-degree robbery, accused of stealing purses from two elderly women in two days.

According to New York State Police, Matthew Biles grabbed the purse of a 73-year-old woman at a Robinson Road business at approximately 8:25 p.m. Saturday and ran. Three young men chased him down and restrained him until police arrived.

Further investigation revealed that Biles was the suspect from a similar robbery on Friday evening.

Biles was arraigned in the Town of Lockport Court and remanded to the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
