Sister Donna Butler, daughter of the late Frank and Loretta (Holz) Butler, was born in Buffalo, New York on December 30, 1932, died on November 3, 2016, at the Stella Niagara Health Center.

Sister Donna attended Rosary Hill (Daemen) College in Amherst, New York and Catholic University, in Washington, DC.

Sister Donna was an educator and spent most of her ministry years in the Buffalo, New York area, at St. Ann School, St. Benedict School, Bishop McMahon, and Sacred Heart Academy.  She also taught at St. Mary School, New Monmouth, New Jersey; Charleston Catholic High School in Charleston, West Virginia; and Holy Rosary School, St. John School, DeSales High School, and St. Matthias, in Columbus, Ohio. After retiring in 2001, Sister Donna did volunteer work at St. Christopher Parish and Sacred Heart Academy, in Buffalo, New York. During her time at St. Christopher’s, She enjoyed singing with the Solace Choir and taking Communion to the sick.

Sister Donna moved to the Stella Niagara Health Center in 2014.

Besides her parents, Sister Donna was pre-deceased by her brothers: Donald (Barbara) Butler and Frank Butler. Survivors include: a sister-in-law, Therese Butler, and nieces and nephews, David Butler, Mark Butler, Kathleen Montesanti, Ellen Volz, Jennifer Carr and Patricia Butler Koebke.

Sister Donna will be waked at Stella Niagara Convent on Sunday, November 6, from 3:00-7:00PM, when a prayer service will be held in her memory. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 7, at 10:00AM in the Sisters’ Chapel at Stella Niagara.
