ATHENS, Ohio – Tyree Jackson threw for over 300 yards and Mason Schreck had a career-best 120 yards receiving, but it wasn’t enough as the University at Buffalo football team dropped a 34-10 decision to Ohio at Peden Stadium on Thursday night.

Jackson finished the game 23-of-38 for 302 yards a touchdown and an interception. 175 of his passing yards came in the second quarter alone. It was his second 300-yard passing game of the season and second in the last four games.

The Bulls faced an Ohio squad with one of the top defenses in the Mid-American Conference. The Bobcats had six sacks in the game against a Buffalo team that ranked 10th in the nation in fewest sacks allowed entering the game.

Ohio scored on the very first play from scrimmage when Quinton Maxwell hit Papi White in stride for a 73-yard touchdown to quickly take a 7-0 lead. The Bobcats built their lead to 20-0 before the Bulls dialed up their best play of the season to get on the scoreboard.

Jackson hit Schreck down the sideline for a 75-yard touchdown. The Bulls’ tight end discarded an Ohio defender near the 20-yard-line before scampering into the endzone.

Schreck finished with seven receptions for a career-high 120 yards and a touchdown in the game. Malcolm Robinson added four catches for 73 yards and Marcus McGill had four receptions for 40 yards.

The Bull outgained the Bobcats in total offense, 413-392. Coming off his school-record 282-yard rushing performance against Akron, the MAC’s top rushing defense held Jordan Johnson to 59 yards on 17 carries.

True freshman Matt Otwinowski led the UB defense with a career-high seven tackles. The Buffalo defense had eight tackles for loss in the game, led by Corey Henderson’s 1.5.

“This isn’t a game about being close,” head coach Lance Leipold. “We showed flashes from time to time and consistency. Unfortunately, this is what a program where we are at this particular time goes through. I’ve got to find a way to do a better job to make more of those things go in our direction.”

Buffalo will return home to host Miami (OH) on November 12 at UB Stadium.
