Daniel Wesley Brown, 56, who resided in Montvale, Va., was tragically taken away from his family and friends on Tuesday morning, October 25, 2016 at his workplace, heroically stepping up to save his fellow employees.

Although currently residing in Montvale, Va., Daniel was from Lockport, N.Y. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1979 and from there he enlisted in the United States Army for 14 years, where he served our country as a Sergeant in Iraq and Desert Storm.

Daniel was preceded in death by his stepson, Jeremy. He is survived by his daughter, Danielle Brown (Tommy); granddaughter, Katie and grandson, Joey; his devoted parents, Alton and Ellen Brown; a brother, Roger Brown and a sister, Linda Brown (Andy). He had many nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly. Dan will also be greatly missed by his girlfriend, Vickie Hawkins; and his granddaughter-at-heart, Claire, who spent every waking and non-working moment with him as well as their two puppies, Samson and Misty.

Dan was a devoted employee of Freightcar America where he considered them all his work family. They will miss his faithfulness and desire for perfection in his work place, where he was known as being their work dad and taught each one he trained as his son. Dan loved hunting and auctioning. He loved the Buffalo Bills, was a devoted Yankees fan, and a huge fan of Nascar’s Mark Martin.

A Memorial of Dan’s Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 from the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane. Inurnment will be in North Ridge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Daniel Brown Memorial Fund at Freightcar America or online at www.oakeys.com.
