WHEATFIELD — An unidentified 46-year-old man was charged Monday following a brief standoff with police in a home in the 2900 block Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour said the suspect’s name will not be immediately released because the situation stemmed from a domestic incident and his office doesn’t want to reveal the identity of the female victim.

The male had reportedly fired two gun shots through a wall of the home and threatened to kill any emergency responders who came to the scene. Eventually, however, he walked peacefully out the home’s back door and was taken into custody.

Voutour said he expects “several charges” to be filed.

Residents in the area had been asked to “shelter in place” while police were dealing with the incident. Police went so far as to ask that anyone who had to leave their homes during the ordeal call for a police escort.
