Canisius freshman Gretta Dry was named the MAAC Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week on Monday after she recorded her fourth game-winning goal of the season to help lift the Golden Griffins to a 1-0 victory over Siena Wednesday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

This is the third honor for Dry this season as she was named MAAC Rookie of the Week and MAAC Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the season.

In Canisius’ 1-0 win versus Siena on Oct. 26, the 5-foot-6, forward scored in the 54th minute, her eighth of the year, off an assist from senior Sabrina Fitzgerald. The Lockport, New York native registered five shots with three going on goal. The win helped the Griffs secure a MAAC Playoff berth, their first appearance in the conference’s post-season since 2014. Also, with the win, the Blue and Gold finished with eight victories, its most since 2011 when Canisius finished 8-7-4.

The Griffs ended the regular season with an overall record of 8-8-0 and 6-4-0 in the conference. The Blue and Gold’s season came to an end last Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Quinnipiac in the MAAC quarterfinals.
