NORTH JAVA — A benefit to assist a family who lost its home to a fire will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 6, at the North Java Fire Hall, 4274 Route 98.

The benefit for Laura Thompson Kurowski, a 1982 graduate of West Seneca West High School; her husband, Larry Kurowski, a South Buffalo native and employee of the Wende Correctional Facility; and their three children will assist as they rebuild after the Oct. 1 fire in Varysburg.

Admission to the event will be $20 per person and include pulled pork, salt potatoes, baked beans, beer, and soft drinks. The event also will include live music, a basket raffle, and a 50/50 split. Organizers also are seeking prize donations. To make a donation or for more information about the fundraiser, contact Melanie Toland-George at (585) 297-3072 or TolandM@hotmail.com.

The family also has established a fundraising page at www.gofundme.com/kurowskihousefire.

Meghan Gill, who identified herself as a niece and cousin of the family when creating the page, stated that while the family is grateful that nobody was injured, the home was a total loss.

“No baby pictures of the three children, no vehicles, no clothing for the cold winter months, the list just goes on and on,” she wrote. “The money donated will be used for clothes, food, and immediate everyday items.”
