Gas prices in Rochester and Buffalo both increased in the past week, as did state and national prices.

In Rochester, the average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline is up 2 cents to $2.29 per gallon, while in Buffalo, prices are up 3 cents to $2.31. The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is now $2.26 per gallon, up 4 cents from last week, and the New York State average is $2.35 per gallon, up 2 cents from the last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $2.40.

A rise in gas prices may have consumers wondering where their seasonal discounts are. Fluctuating oil prices, international matters, disruptions on the Colonial Pipeline and refinery maintenance are all to blame for the increase.

As AAA warned last week, drivers are seeing pump prices wobble higher as the market reacts to the OPEC production agreement, continued refinery maintenance and Hurricane Matthew along the East Coast.
