The number of people reporting nausea and vomiting after eating at 14 Mighty Taco locations in Erie and Niagara counties between Sept. 27 and Oct. 6 now stands at 122, according to public health officials.

The sickness is believed to be tied to refried beans the company got from a third-party supplier. Those beans, which are being testing by the State Health Department, have been removed from the local restaurant chain’s stores. Results of those tests are not expected to be available for another week.

Of those reporting sickness, 104 are in Erie County, while 18 are in Niagara County. Additional complaints are possible, but new illnesses are thought to be unlikely as most people fell ill within a few hours after eating and it is believed the culprit has been removed.

That said, public health officials “are looking at all possible foods as suspects,” Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein said on Friday.

All 104 diners have been interviewed by health officials. None of them required hospitalization.

Erie County residents who believe they’ve been affected can call Erie County Department of Health at 716-858-7697. Niagara county residents are asked to contact the Niagara County Division of Environmental Health at 716-439-7444.
