The Niagara men’s and women’s cross country teams are back in action to compete in the annual Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday. The men’s race begins at 12:15 p.m followed by the women’s race at 1:00 p.m.

On the women’s side, Kayla Murphy and Caroline Hampton both finished in the top-10 in the season-opening Little 3 Championships at Delaware Park. The pair also finished at the top for the Purple Eagles at the National Catholic Invitational. Hampton ran the 5000M in 19:48 for 66th place with Murphy finishing two places later at a time of 19:52.6. Megan Helf run a personal-best time of 20:36.7 and Julia Freemire ran the race in 20:42.3.

For the men, Tyler van Leeuwen led the Purple Eagles at the 37th Annual National Catholic Invitational. He ran the race in 27:04 for 48th place out of 86 runners. It was the second straight meet van Leeuwen led the Purple Eagles. In the season-opening Little 3 Championships, Niagara ran the 5K event in 16:43.3 to finish ahead of St. Bonaventure (17:10.2) and behind Canisius (15:51.0).
