BUFFALO — Niagara University junior guard Matt Scott was named to the 2016-17 Preseason All-Big 4 First Team announced on Wednesday at the Big 4 Basketball Media Day at KeyBank Center.

Scott had a career setting sophomore campaign en route to earning 2015-16 All-MAAC Third Team honors. The Brooklyn native set career-highs in points, field goals, 3-pointers, free throws, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.

Scott led Niagara with 7.1 rebounds per game, 1.3 steals per game and 4.5 free throws made per game, while placing second in assists with 2.5 per game and in scoring with 15.4 per game. Scott was the team’s leading scorer through the first 30 games of the season. Scott’s six double-doubles were the most by a Purple Eagle since the 2009-10 season.

In the MAAC, Scott was 10th overall in scoring and was fourth in rebounds per game to be one of two players in the conference to have at least nine 20-point games and six 10-rebound games.

The Purple Eagles will open their season on Nov. 11 against Big 4 rival Buffalo at 8 pm. in the Gallagher Center. Niagara will face St. Bonaventure in the Big 4 Basketball Classic on Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. The Purple Eagles’ two meetings with Canisius will be on Jan. 23 (Gallagher Center) and on Feb. 10 (Koessler Center).
