TOWN OF LOCKPORT — Two Niagara Falls residents were arrested on welfare fraud charges following investigations by the Niagara County Department of Social Services and Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Welfare Fraud Unit.

Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour announced the arrests of 35-year-old Michele Taylor and 47-year-old Torez Lamar this afternoon.

Taylor was charged with fourth-degree grand laceny, fourth-degree welfare fraud and three counts of offering a false instrument for filing. NCSO says Taylor submitted recertifications between October 2014 and March 2016 that knowingly contained false information about family members who lived in her residence. Taylor is due in Lockport City Court on Monday.

Lamar was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree welfare fraud, and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing. Lamar reportedly collected almost $7,000 in benefits he was not entitled to after he failed to disclose financial resources he had access to. Lamar is due in Lockport City Court on Sept. 28.

Both individuals were released on appearance tickets.
