Law enforcement agencies throughout Niagara County issued nearly 200 traffic tickets and arrested 20 people between Aug. 19 and Sept. 5 as part of a “Labor Day National DWI Crackdown Enforcement.”

According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, 10 of the arrests were for driving while intoxicated. The other 10 were for other infractions or warrants. Approximately 198 traffic tickets were also issued by the participating agencies, which included:

  • Niagara County Sheriff’s Office
  • Niagara Falls Police Department
  • North Tonawanda Police Department
  • New York State Park Police
  • Middleport Police Department
  • Lockport Police Department, 
  • Lewiston Police Department
  • Town of Niagara Police Department
  • Somerset Police Department
  • Youngstown Police Department

All agencies involved utilized increased patrol units that were specifically designated for DWI enforcement.

Future “crackdown” periods are already scheduled in 2016 with all agencies being involved.
