LOCKPORT — A pair of Lockportians were charged Tuesday with welfare fraud, according to Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour

Fourty-five-year-old Irving Burkhardt and 30-year-old Casey Roberts were arrested on several charges related to separate welfare fraud investigations conducted by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Welfare Fraud Unit and Niagara County Department of Social Services, according to NCSO.

Burkhardt and Roberts were both charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree welfare fraud, and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing. Officials say Burkhardt received over $3,300 in benefits he was not entitled to after he failed to report income wages, while Roberts received over $2,600 in benefits after she did not disclose all income sources on her recertification.

Both were released on appearance tickets. Burkhardt is due back in City of Lockport Court on Monday. Roberts has a return date in City of Lockport Court on Sept. 21.
