CLARENCE — A 16-year-old Clarence student was charged Friday after she reportedly assaulted an Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy.

According to Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard, the incident happened outside of a school social function Friday evening. During the event, a teacher asked a uniformed deputy working the event to assist with ejecting an intoxicated student. The deputy observed signs of intoxication and detected a strong odor of alcohol as they attempted to remove the female student, who then ran from the deputy and exited the school building.

Deputy Vogl spotted the subject and attempted to detain her but the student resisted and struck Deputy Vogl with a closed fist. Deputy Day arrived at the scene to provide assistance and placed the intoxicated female into custody.

The 16-year-old female was charged with a felony count of assaulting an officer, misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, false personation, and obstructing governmental administration. She was also charged with harassment and disorderly conduct and later taken to the holding center. The subject was released later that night and she faces future court proceedings in Clarence.

Deputy Vogl sustained some facial and upper body injuries and is expected to be back working soon.
