Richard J. Wright, Sr, 69, of Youngstown, NY, passed from this life on Friday, September 9, 2016 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on November 1, 1946 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Genevieve (Lutts) Wright.
Mr. Wright was a lifelong area resident. Richard attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1965. On June 28, 1975, he married the former Joanne M. Dick. Mr. Wright was employed as a Dairy Frozen Manager for Tops Friendly Markets and later by the UFCW Local #212. In 2001, Richard retired as Vice President from the UFCW Local One.
Mr. Wright was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Youngstown, NY and a former member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club, where he had a hole-in-one. One of Richard’s proudest moments was in 2006, when he was inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Wright served as Past-President of the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club as well as the Niagara Falls YMCA. Richard also was Vice President of the Hyde Park Little League and a board member of Mid-Town Little League and the Niagara Falls High School Sports Boosters.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 41 years, Mr. Wright is survived by three sons, Richard J. (Paula) Wright, Jr., Andrew Wright and Robert “Casey” (Ann) Wright; five grandchildren, Keira, Kylie, Cora, Lyla and Roman; one brother, Robert J. (Paulette) Wright and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his son, Joseph J. Wright and one brother, Stanley L. Wright.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, in the Town of Niagara. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, September 14th at 11:00 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, 100 Church Street, Youngstown, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH. Private interment will be held in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Flowers are gratefully declined.
