ORCHARD PARK — The Buffalo Bills have moved kickoff specialist Jordan Gay from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

Gay was released when the team made final cuts a week ago, but was signed to the practice squad earlier this week.

The kickoff specialist has spent most of the last two seasons with the Bills and has 91 touchbacks on 160 kickoffs. Gay was instrumental in Buffalo ranking first in the league in kickoff coverage in 2015.

Touchbacks on kickoffs this season will now put the ball on the 25-yard line, which has prompted some special teams coordinators to experiment with alternative approaches instead of just kicking the ball through the back of the end zone.
