BUFFALO — Looking to become the first team in Mid-American Conference history to win a third straight MAC Championship, the University at Buffalo men’s basketball team has announced their path to get there with the unveiling of the 2016-17 schedule.

UB will rack up the frequent flyer miles during non-conference play as the Bulls will travel over 8,200 miles all across the country over the first two months of play.  Buffalo will open the season on Nov. 11 at Big 4 rival Niagara and will then head down to Cincinnati, OH on Nov. 14 for a big game at Xavier.

The Bulls will have their regular season home opener on Nov. 14 when they host Nazerath as part of the Great Alaska Shootout. UB will play the rest of that event out in Anchorage over Thanksgiving weekend beginning on Nov. 23 against the host Seawolves. The Bulls will play a total of three games in Alaska. On their way back East, Buffalo will make a stop in Omaha, NE for non-conference tilt at Creighton on Nov. 29.

Buffalo opens up December with two more games away from home as they head down to Olean on Dec. 3 against St. Bonaventure and then the Bulls will head to the University of Pittsburgh to face the Panthers on Dec. 7.

The Bulls will conclude non-conference play with three of their last four games in Buffalo, including two of those inside Alumni Arena.  UB will host Coppin State on Dec. 10 and then will face Canisius in the Big 4 Classic down at the Keybank Center downtown on Dec. 17. The Bulls will play in their second straight NHL arena on Dec. 21 as UB travels back down to Pittsburgh to face Robert Morris at the CONSOL Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Bulls will conclude non-conference play on Dec. 30 when they host Maine.

Buffalo will open its 18-game Mid-American Conference schedule after the new year, beginning with two-game road swing through Toledo (Jan. 3) and Eastern Michigan (Jan. 7).  The Bulls will play their first home MAC game on Jan. 10 against Ohio and then they will host Ball State on Jan. 14.

Following a stretch that will see the Bulls play five of seven away from home, Buffalo will close out conference play with a friendly home stretch that will see it play four of its final five games at home, including a stretch of home games against Miami (OH) (Feb. 18), Kent State (Feb. 21) and Akron (Feb. 25).  The game against Miami will be UB’s 100 Seasons of Men’s Basketball celebration.

The Bulls will make a trip to Ohio on Feb. 28 before closing out the regular season at home against Bowling Green on March 3.  The Mid-American Conference Tournament will again take place at The Quick Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland from March 9-11.

Buffalo will open the season with an exhibition game at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 4 against Daemen. It will be the second half of an exhibition doubleheader with the women’s team.
