ORCHARD PARK — The Buffalo Bills signed free agent Brandon Tate to the team this morning.

Tate, 28, has made his living in the NFL as a kickoff and punt returner, playing the last five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Tate (6-1, 195) has averaged 24.6 yards per kick return and 9.2 yards per punt return in his career. The eight-year veteran has three career returns for touchdowns. Last season his number dipped a bit from those averages to 22.9 per kick return and 6.3 per punt return.

Buffalo signed Reggie Bush this summer with a primary return role as one of the main reasons for bringing the 11-year veteran in. With the Tate signing, it could be indication that there might be a bigger role for Bush on offense than initially anticipated.

Tate was expected to practice with his new teammates today.

The Bills also announced that the team has signed CB Marcus Roberson to the team’s practice squad.
