BUFFALO — Arts Services Initiative of Western New York (ASI) and Spectra Venue Management will join forces for a pair of “Cultural Connections” events taking place tonight and Friday Sept. 9 at Canalside.

Tonight’s event asks “What happens when a New Orleans style brass band and an Americana band get together?” To find out, Ten Cent Howl and Buffalo Brass Machine have been working together to bring their two unique styles of American music together. Buffalo Brass Machine will kick things off at 7 pm, followed by Ten Cent Howl at 8 pm, and a set with both bands together at 9 pm.

On Sept. 9, Off Beat Cinema hosts an evening “On the Beat.” Taylor Made Jazz presents Melissa Kate and Joyce Wilson Nixon will take the stage for the entire evening beginning at 7 p.m. Throughout the evening, they’ll be joined by Foxy Diamondz Dance Company for a live music and dance event, and artist Vinny Alejandro will be live painting the event.

“Canalside is a virtual playground for artists and musicians of all types,” ASI Executive Director Tod A. Kniazuk explained. “We’re proud to work with Spectra throughout the year on developing cultural programming at Canalside, and happy that they’re encouraging this kind of fusion of genres and art forms.”

Admission is free and limited seating is available. More information can be found at www.canalsidebuffalo.com.
