Melvin E. Hetrick Sr. of  the Town of Niagara, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016, in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. He was born on Hawthorn, PA, on January 23, 1919, the son of the late Harry and Vinnie [Young] Hetrick.

Mr. Hetrick served with the US Army, during World War II and moved to Niagara Falls in 1944. He was employed at Niagara Wallpaper, where he met his wife and later became a machine operator at Carborundum for 37 years, before retiring in 1985. Mr. Hetrick was a member of the Masonic Lodge #1049 and the Town of Niagara Seniors. He enjoyed going to the office (OTB), listening to country music and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates Fan. Mr. Hetrick will be remembered by family and friends for his off beat sense of humor, which his sons inherited.

He was the husband of the late Mamie L. [Frantz] Hetrick, they were married on December 17, 1946 for 67 years, before Mamie passed in March of 2013. Mr. Hetrick is survived by three sons Mark E. Hetrick, Melvin E. (Denise) Hetrick, Jr. and Michael E. (Antoinette) Hetrick, six grandchildren Melvin III, Dana, Melissa, Michael, Amy and Mark, two great grandsons  Jimmy and Vinnie, also many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late William E. Hetrick, and brother of the late Ernest, Carvin and Harry Hetrick.

His family will be present on Wednesday from 6-8:30 PM at the RHONEY FUNERALHOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM, with the Rev.  Matthew Kofahl officiating.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Niagara SPCA,  2100 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls, NY  14304.

Interment in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery,  Lewiston, NY.
