ALBANY — New York State Sen. Rob Ortt is asking for an official review from the New York State Department of Transportation on a stretch of road that saw two young people killed last week.

According to a letter Sen. Ortt sent to DOT Commissioner Matthew J. Driscoll, the senator is asking the DOT to “conduct a review pertaining to Shawnee Road -specifically the current speed limit as well as the lack of restrictions on parking along both lanes of the roadway.”

Eighteen-year-old Melanie Aronow of Amherst and 18-year-old Quience Harper Lockport were struck and killed by a car shortly after midnight on Saturday. A Niagara County Sheriff’s investigation into the crash is still underway.
