BUFFALO — In celebration of its 15th year celebrating one of the things Buffalo is most famous for — chicken wings — The National Buffalo Wing Festival is adding even more to its already-packed two-day lineup.

The 2016 National Buffalo Wing Festival, Sept. 3 and 4 at Coca-Cola Field, is introducing two new events geared towards those who like to burn their calories as much as they like to consume them: The Buffalo Ninja Warrior Challenge and the Chicken Wing 5K Run.

The Buffalo Ninja Warrior Challenge is an obstacle course being run at Coca-Cola field during the festival. Those lucky enough to pass through the six-obstacle qualifying course on Sept. 3 will be greeted by the 10-obstacle finals course on the 4th. A kids’ course will be run on Sunday, as well. While registration for the event is already closed, it is open to spectators.

There’s still time, however, to get into the Chicken Wing 5K, a 5K run to be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 4. Organizers say “It’s the perfect opportunity to run off all those wings from Saturday, and a great opportunity to get out and be active.” Your $35 registration fee gets you entry into the festival, $5 in food tickets, your first beverage at the festival and a t-shirt (while supplies last).

Of course, festival attendees are also welcome to just eat some wings and watch events unfold around them. They have plenty to watch, too, including the Little Miss Wing contest, Miss Buffalo Wing 16+ contest, an amateur creative ‘sauce-off,’ an amateur traditional ‘sauce-off,’ bobbing for wings, the amateur wing-eating championship, the Buffalo Buffet Competitive Eating Contest, the Baby Wing Competition, a college wing-eating championship, the “Triple Atomic Hot Wing Eating Contest,” the United States Wing Eating Championship, live music and Quiz Master, Dennis George.

Tickets for the National Buffalo Wing Festival are $5 per person (cash only). Food tickets are $1 each with each ticket good for one wing from the more than two-dozen vendors serving them. There are also vendors with other treats, as well.
