AMHERST — A main electric transmission line in Amherst has blown, taking with it four substations and leaving 22,000 Erie County residents without power.

The largest affected area is near Harris Hill where nearly 10,000 people are without electricity at the moment. Other outages are in Getzville, Williamsville, East Amherst, and some in the Niagara County Town of Pendleton.

Amherst officials said that National Grid is working on the problem and ask that people not call 911.

UPDATE: As of 5 p.m., most in the Harris Hill area are back online. Still 10,000 without power in Erie, Niagara counties.

UPDATE: As of 7 p.m., we’re back to almost 24,000 people without power in approximately the same affected area. Restoration time for most said to be approximately 7:45 p.m.
