LOCKPORT — The body found in the rubble of the Lockport fire was that of missing 14-year-old Joe Phillips, according to Niagara County Coroner Ken Lederhouse.

DNA testing came back from the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office confirming the ID after an attempt to identify the body through dental records proved futile.

Phillips had last been seen by his family shortly before the Aug. 10 fire broke out at HTI Recycling, 490 Ohio Street. It had been widely speculated that Phillips was the body found in the rubble on Aug. 12, but police were tight-lipped on the situation, refusing to reveal the name of the missing boy.

That fire took more than 60 hours to subdue. In all, 40 different fire companies worked the scene.
