BUFFALO — A 28-year-old Lackawanna man was sentenced Monday to 25-years-to-life in prison on a second-degree murder conviction for the stabbing death of his wife.

According to Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr., in July of 2015, Daniel Whiting stabbed his 21-year-old wife Ashley 30 times at their home at 135 Madison Ave. and then stabbed himself, claiming that both were attacked by an intruder.

“This is heartbreakingly sad. You have two small children who will never know their mother, and their father might spend the rest of his life behind bars,” said Flaherty. “This is another tragic reminder of how domestic violence rips families apart.”
