LOCKPORT — Lockport Fire Department officials have declared that the fire at the High Tread International facility at 490 Ohio St. is out.

All units have cleared from the scene.

The fire burned for 66.5 hours and claimed one life. It also caused the evacuation of approximately 200 homes in the city’s West End. Overall, 40 different fire companies from throughout Western New York battled the blaze.

Details on total man hours and costs are not yet available. Nor is information on the body found Friday evening in the rubble of the fire. A 14-year-old boy had been reported missing shortly after the fire started around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials say an oily residue from the burning rubber made its way into the Erie Canal and is likely to find its way to other local streams and tributaries. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has said it will create a plan to clean the residue.

UPDATE (2:16 p.m.) : Lockport Fire Department was called back to the scene for a “rekindle.”
