SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Chiefs scored two runs in both the second and third innings en route to a 6-4 win against the Rochester Red Wings Wednesday night at NBT Bank Stadium.

The loss is the fourth straight for the Red Wings (65-53), who fall 9.5 games behind the division-leading Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Rochester remains 5.5 games back of the wild card currently held by Lehigh Valley.

The Wings struck first against Chiefs (53-64) starter Austin Voth. Byron Buxton walked to begin the game, stole second base and scored on Tommy Field’s double for a 1-0 lead. Rochester product Chris Bostick, playing with Syracuse, made a great diving play at second base to prevent Daniel Palka a base hit and potential RBI with one out and Field was left in scoring position. The missed opportunity to add on was a bit of foreshadowing for the Wings.

Rochester started the second inning with a walk to Reynaldo Rodriguez, the first Triple-A hit – a single – for Mitch Garver and an RBI single by James Beresford to extend the advantage to 2-0. A double play, a walk and a pop out ended the inning.

Zach Collier hit a two-out, two-run double in the second inning against Wings starter Adalberto Mejia (0-2) to tie the game. After Byungho Park scored on a wild pitch with a bases loaded in the top of the third, Matt Skole hit a two-run homer in the bottom half for the Chiefs and Syracuse led for the first time 4-3. Skole added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 5-3.

Voth lasted just 2.2 innings and allowed four hits and five walks with two walks. He was charged for three runs and did not factor in the decision.

Field recorded his third hit of the night with an RBI single in the sixth off Aaron Laffey (5-5) to make it 5-4. The Red Wings left runners on the corners to end the inning.

Mejia completed 6.0 innings and was tagged for five runs on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in his second start since being acquired from San Francisco on July 28.

Syracuse added a run in the seventh against Neil Ramirez to cap the scoring at 6-4.
