Let’s say you were looking for an excuse to get out of the house today and drink some wine. Not that you need an excuse, but just play along, okay?

The wineries of the Niagara Wine Trail are offering “Sips and Dips” each Sunday in August. “Sips and Dips” is a summertime take on the popular wine and snack pairings the wine trail has been promoting this year. Each Sunday — starting today — participating wineries will pair a light dip-able snack with a featured wine, mead or cider.

The samples will work similar to the way they did this past March and in May for the respective “Sips and Soups” and “May Munchies” Sunday pairings. Bite-size portions of a participating winery’s chosen appetizer or dessert is included with their tasting fee, or as a separate add-on for that particular day. Tasting fees and pairings will vary in price per winery.

Today’s pairings include:

  • Flight of Five Winery: Herbed Yogurt Dip paired with Locktender
  • Niagara Landing Wine Cellars: Soft Pretzel Bites and Cheese Dip, suggested pairings: Sweet Concord/Rosebud White/ Pilots Choice/ Riesling-Chardonnay
  • The Winery at Marjim Manor: Two bread spreads; Cabernet Sauvignon with Cherry spread and White Wine Bruschetta.
  • A Gust of Sun Winery (Ransomville Location): Try a different dip mix by Tastefully Simple each week with a suggested pairing.
  • Spring Lake Winery: Nana’s Biscotti dipped in chocolate, suggested pairing is our Cabernet.

A complete list of wineries participating each week and their pairing will be posted on the trail’s website, in the weekly newsletter, and on social media using the hashtag #SipsandDips.

Tastings are from noon – 5 p.m. Reservations are recommended for groups of 6 or more. Samples each weekend are available in limited supply, so patrons are encouraged to come early.
